Sad Reality of Architects !

Architecture Schools taught us about Corbusier’s Modulor, Fallingwater, etc and they made us believe we’d shape cities, change lives, and design dreamscapes.
But the moment we walk out of studio and into the “real world”?
We’re just redlining yet another typical 3BHK floor plan with perfect vastu alignment and zero windows.

Once you step out of studio, expecting to design the next Fallingwater, but suddenly you’re cranking out cookie-cutter floor plans for housing projects with so little soul even your tracing paper misses your college sketches. Poof—there goes the fantasy of creating iconic spaces; in its place is a never-ending loop of “just make it Vastu-compliant and budget-friendly”—and, oh, can you also throw in a large lawn space?

Why is this Happening ?

Most people see architecture through a very different lens.

To clients, building a house is about vastu + budget + where to put the pooja room. They’ll happily save a buck today on design, only to spend double on maintenance because someone picked the world’s cheapest tile.
To us, it’s about light, ventilation, flow, sustainability, purpose — but sadly, that gets lost in translation.

The biggest Misconception !

And Let’s not forget, the role of an architect is so misunderstood it’s almost a meme at this point. We’re lumped in with the stereotype that we’re just glorified civil engineers or part-time interior decorators. For a lot of clients, architects are a “luxury” meant just for those who want “aesthetic” Instagram homes. The truth? Architecture is about liveability, safety, sustainability—and yes, a little aesthetic flex thrown in for good measure.

It’s not their fault entirely.
There’s a huge disconnect.
Because for decades, architecture was branded as something elite, aesthetic, or simply unaffordable

The world needs to know that thoughtful architecture isn’t a luxury, it’s an investment that pays off for generations.

We’ve got to get out there and talk about what architects really do—for real. Whether it’s posting about your latest project on Instagram, explaining things over chai with friends and family, or just having honest chats with neighbors, let’s help people see the bigger picture.

As architects, it’s time we educate, engage, and elevate the perception of our profession. Let’s break

Because if we don’t talk about it, who will?
