Architecture of Losing Things

What if Thanos chose architects instead of Avengers?

He wouldn’t erase people.

He’d erase your GFC set.

I could still feel that day and the smell of the coffee on my table that Monday. I understood that I had lost a file that I had been working on for a long time.

I didn’t remember the file size…. I remembered which song was playing when I finished the drawing.

I searched ‘IDD block’ five times….. The fifth time, I knew the result wouldn’t change….. I pressed Enter anyway.

I opened AutoCAD three times before realizing there was nothing left to open.

I didn’t count the hours while I was working on it, but somehow, I remembered them perfectly once they were gone.

The file wasn’t just a drawing. It was every late night no one else saw.

You could tell which drawings you had made when you were sad. The line weight got heavier.

I still knew the dimensions by heart. There was a time when I would’ve done anything to get it back.

I had to start it from scratch. My hands knew exactly what to do, but my brain just wasn’t there.

Eventually, acceptance hit. This time, I knew everything about that drawing, and I still didn’t want to do it anymore.

I spent hours making something exist, and somehow, all I was left with was the memory of making it.

Some sets never made it to Good For Construction. Some you just had to close, unsaved, and sit with the blank screen.

It was a file, technically. But I didn’t think that was what I was writing about.
